I’ve read that only property owners can vote in the Town of Potsdam recreational district referendum. This makes sense. Just as there is “no taxation without representation”, there should be “no representation without taxation”. If you don’t pay a certain tax, and have no skin in the game, then you shouldn’t be allowed to decide what’s done with other people’s money. Otherwise non-taxpayers will just vote themselves more free benefits.
