Congratulations to all of the kids in Section X on a great season. Coaches, I want to point out a disservice to the kids that play these sports for their schools. The end of season awards are designed to recognize the athletes who stand out against the rest of the competition. These awards should never be about politics. They should be about the athletes’ accomplishments. For each sport there is a first team, second team and MVP. When measured, the athletes on the first team should be better than those on the second team. The same goes for MVP. When measured against the athletes on the first team, the MVP should stand alone above the rest. Everything that the athlete accomplished made him/her the MVP. When an athlete who does not stand out above the rest wins the award, it belittles the award and the award process. Don’t cheat the athletes.
