To the author of “Athletes Don’t Need Gym” (Sound Off, Nov. 2-8), great idea! If schools want to raise their grade standard, they should consider exempting sport team participants from attending mandatory gym class. These athletes get their weekly PE during practice and game time. A study hall in place of regular PE for sports members would help these athletes with their grades. This idea may help reduce the school budget by less instructor time for regular PE. (This will be something that the teacher’s union will protest.) I hope that this idea gets further attention.
