It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that when the county raised it sales tax rate, that it didn’t equate to more revenue. When many school districts raised taxes, when many towns raised taxes, and many towns voted to ignore the 2 percent tax cap. Every increase of taxes pulls money out of the economy. Every increase in governmental costs pulls money out of the economy. Look at the Town of Massena, for instance. It used to have three major employers, and the employee parking lots used to be full of cars. Not any more. Reynolds Metals failed and was taken over by Alcoa. General Motors closed its plant and moved out of state to Indiana. Alcoa is a mere shell of what it used to be, and it is doubtful if it will remain in business here. Take a look at the rest of the stores pulling out of the mall and surrounding area such as Sears and Office Max. Look at the people losing their homes for not being able to pay taxes on their homes. All this caused by the abject failure of local, state and federal government to control costs. Take a look at the City Of Detroit and see the empty stores and the blighted empty homes. I can already see that “Start Up New York” is going to be another failure. The growth and cost of government smothers the growth of everything else. Every local tax, every state tax, every federal tax is leading to the destruction of every job and every community and to the destruction of the Nation. The Roman Empire collapsed because of over taxation, and if the United States continues on the path that we are on, so will we.
