To those who need help understanding the need of “hand-outs,” it’s wonderful you have not “yet” in your lifetime had the “need” for temporary assistance. You must be feeling very blessed/grateful! Seven years ago I, too, felt blessed, living the pristine lifestyle as a hardworking, taxpaying mother of 2 (lavish vacations, all the tech toys/gadgets, designer jeans, etc.). Since that time, I have become disabled, am divorced & am now in the Medicare prescriptions donut hole & cannot even afford necessary medications/medical treatment. I was grateful 7 years ago to be able to provide a very adequate childhood (emotionally & financially). I was also very blessed/grateful to accept that needed “hand-out” for the first time ever, last week. Only ignorance would lead one to state that the majority abuse alcohol/drugs, are lazy, etc. I pray you never have the need for a hand-out, but one never truly knows what tomorrow will bring.
