Lower hunting age?

To author of the Dec. 23-Jan. 3 Sound Off “Happy Hunting,” you sound like you're part of the problem relating to low deer numbers. You have averaged four deer per year up in this area for the last 25 years? As someone that has hunted here for over 30 years, I would like to know how many of your 100 deer were illegally tagged. Unless you are filling nuisance permits for one of the area farmers, it is not possible to have legally averaged four deer over the last 25 years in this area. Your idea of raising the hunting age so a 12, 13, 14, or 15-year-old kid can't hunt…supervised by an adult I should add, is moronic. Did some kid shoot "your buck?" These kids are the future of the hunting sport. My most memorable times in the deer woods have been with youth hunters. Youth hunting is one of the areas the DEC has done correctly.
