I was shocked to see that Literacy of Northern New York closed their Potsdam office with no advanced warning. I know how much good this program did, servicing adult literacy students, ESL/EFL students, and providing those really cool shelfies - free book exchanges in local businesses. Their program manager really worked hard to bring volunteers together and to bring a higher awareness of literacy needs to the community. Very sad to see this gone, especially after seeing United Way bragging about the money they were giving to local organizations a week or so ago in this very paper. That they would cut this program without any warning is cruel to an area that needs this service.
