In response to “College Student Crime” which appeared in the Sept. 30-Oct. 6 issue of North Country This Week: How dare you publish the hate speech promoted in it? Without the universities, there would be nothing in Canton and Potsdam. Students are recruited from many places, for all kinds of reasons. Diversity is one reason, academics, sports, and to offer opportunities to attend a university that is affordable, unique and in a beautiful town. As long as I have lived here, 37 years, I have seen many stories in the news of horrific crimes perpetrated by our local boys and girls. How ridiculous to say recruiting from cities is the cause of this crime. You, the sound off writer, garner the benefits of living and working in a lovely, small college town. Maybe next time, you will consider how racist and hateful your opinions sound!
