The students are gone. For businesses in the villages of Canton and Potsdam, I understand that the summer months can be a time of decreased sales. However, there is also an opportunity now to attract locals who appreciate the quiet, unhurried charm of Canton and Potsdam during the summer. Perhaps local businesses could offer special summer promotions to the parents of bored elementary children, opportunities for high school kids to socialize, discounts for the snowbirds home from Florida and Arizona, etc. I certainly appreciate the decreased congestion on the village streets, more empty parking spaces on Main Street and downtown, and the comfort and efficiency of un-crowded dining and shopping. This is the perfect time of year for us locals to enjoy the wonderful businesses of Canton and Potsdam - maybe a promotion, discount or invitation would help get us through your door!
