Great job on your last week’s property tax cap survey (NCNow Survey, Aug. 31 – Sept. 6). This shows what the people really think – 83 percent said “no.” This should tell our county leaders something but I doubt it will. They will most likely spin their “phony” stacked meeting of last week in the other direction. Our county government is too big and too expensive. Plain and simple. I live on Social Security and haven’t had a penny raise in the last two years. Our county employees get raises every year and benefits unmatched in the private sector. As far as the deputy sheriffs go, I’m sure we could get by with a couple fewer, given that the troopers are tripping over each other in our area. Most county residents can’t afford a 9.5 to 10 percent tax increase. Keep the 2 percent tax cap and cut spending.
