In response to “Breastfeeding in Church,” which appeared in the Aug. 30 - Sept. 5 issue of North Country This Week: You are right this is a year for exciting learning experiences. So many new mothers are trying their best to learn how to take care of their children. Some bottle feed and some breastfeed. Both mothers are caring for their children plain and simple. You may view a woman breastfeeding as pornography and "being overexposed" but let me tell you from first hand experience we are not some exhibitionist looking for extra attention. We are trying to take care of our children's needs, discretely (sometimes you might see a nipple if you stare hard enough). My children's needs will come before your discomfort and lack of education every damn time. My husband supports me "exposing myself to other men" or as the majority see it nursing my child. We have a beautiful support system in St. Lawrence County, through WIC clinics, lactation consultants, midwives and doulas. We celebrated through the very successful event The Big Latch On in canton recently. We will continue to support each other and help educate those less inclined. Latch those babies and stay strong mammas!
