Kudos to county employees

First off I would like to share the statement posted by North Country Now (Sound Off) regarding emails sent to them for posting: "We welcome your contributions for the "Sound Off" viewer opinion feature. To submit a contribution, email SoundOff@NorthCountryNow.com. Keep submissions to 150 words or fewer; all are subject to editing. Criticisms of local people or businesses and political endorsements are not accepted." In response to “Halloween Nonsense,” from reading this individual's comment, it would seem they are criticizing county employees for enjoying a holiday. I wonder if this person feels the same way about individuals at banks, department stores, convenient stores, etc. who in some fashion show their enthusiasm for holidays? We county employees do have good jobs, and we have worked hard at those jobs to get where we are. It all starts with taking Civil Service Exams and waiting your turn to be selected from a list of many eligible candidates. Then there is opportunity for advancement. We county employees do have good benefits (retirement, health insurance, etc.); which does not come free. We do pay for our benefits. We do work hard at our respective jobs for the people of St. Lawrence County. It's sad that this person has taken the time to criticize county employees for having a little fun one day out of the year! Dressing in costumes does not interfere with the performance of the employees. We are still able to answer phones, make appointments, answer questions, do data entry, etc. And guess what? The caller on the other end of the phone gets the same courteous reception whether we are wearing casual everyday work attire or a creative costume. I guess my opinion of this person who wrote this posting is they have an issue with the fact that county employees have good jobs, benefits, etc. My response to this would be: you too could have this - take a civil service test - wait your turn - pay for your benefits - look forward to retirement. To all my fellow county employees: kudos for all you do on a daily basis.
