Elise Stefanik may speak for some Americans but she certainly doesn’t speak for many of us who put the well-being of our environment and our children above the profits of the oil barons who would be the real people to profit from such a venture. The jobs she speaks of would not help the economy of St. Lawrence County residents, and there would be no significant lowering of the cost of gas or fuel oil because of it. Does she really think we’re that stupid? I am glad that our president has put the environment first in this matter along with the health of our children, grandchildren and the land we farm and raise our gardens in as well as the wildlife we enjoy and some hunt for food. Thank you Mr. President. Ms. Stefanik, please don’t assume you speak for all Americans. Some of us do understand the harm such a project will do. This county already has a very, very high rate of cancer due to the pollution we’ve endured. Some of have seen what that has done to our children and grandchildren and the men who worked in the Massena plants and died because of it; the high rate of cancer among our Native population, etc. Ms. Stefanik, don’t glamorize this project. Call it what it is, a rich man’s way to get more at the expense of others.
