Issue runs much deeper

Recently I attended the Norwood-Norfolk Central School community forum. The next day I was surprised that a local newspaper devoted much of its article to the discussion of school mergers, which was only a small portion of the forum. Much of the evening focused on ways to keep NNCS as an entity unto itself and ways to save money like the elimination of the middle school. A former board member who never attended NNCS was quoted as saying “people just don’t want their kids wearing a different color.” I think it runs much deeper than that people don’t want outsiders coming in and deciding the fate of our school; they don’t want kids riding the bus for long periods of time, they wonder what will happen to the value of their homes when no one wants to buy a house because there is no school.
