The mistake that was made by the school board in Massena was to hire an inexperienced superintendent with little in the way of a track record to run one of the largest school districts in the county. The complexities of a large School District like Massena with the amount of employees they have is no place for a first time Superintendent to learn on the fly while trying to manage such a large operation. There is no substitute for experience and in this case he had little to none. The old saying “ You get what you pay for” bears stark resemblance to what is going on in Massena and in a smaller scale Norwood Norfolk Central. School boards need to put the time in to find good people or give up their seats on the BOE.
