Immigration is privilege

A few things to remember about immigration. We are all immigrants and the U.S. has always welcomed a restricted number of immigrants into our country every year. There are caps on the numbers for each country, the numbers of war refugees, the numbers who have been persecuted for religious reasons, etc. Not every person desiring to enter this country is allowed to and in our long history never has been allowed to. Immigration is a privilege, not a right. The current ban on all immigration, although implemented in a clumsy way, is temporary, not permanent. Last of all, the executive branch of the government establishes policy, including immigration policy. When the dust has settled and our doors are again open to immigration later this spring, we will have a tighter, more secure system in place for the security of all of us. We are a sovereign country and have the right and responsibility to secure our borders for the safety of our citizens. Any sovereign country that allows unrestricted, uncontrolled access across its borders will not be a country for long.
