In response to "Jobs are better idea" in North Country This Week's Sept. 23-29 issue: Your issue isn't with solar power in the North Country, it's with a local snafu. Why link "Solar is Good Idea" to a gripe about Village cost overruns? You come across as saying that any expenditure that tries to get us off oil and gas dependency will prove to be a bad idea. Unfortunately, that's become a self-fulfilling prophecy in the U.S. It goes back to what Reagan did, coming into the White House. He had Carter's solar panels removed, and took off all legal restrictions on car omissions from Ford's and Carter's administrations. So now we've lost the high ground in solar -- other green technologies too. We're out of competition. China is marketing better and more efficient solar panels, providing lots of jobs -- in China. Get wise to who's telling you solar and geo and hydro lose jobs! If the sun can create jobs in Canada, why not give the sun a chance here?
