It’s public hearing week on the local school budgets. Please make an informed vote. Read newsletters, attend meetings, talk with neighbors and friends about what you learn. The North Country continues to be a changing region. Many have left the area, tax assessments have risen, and fewer are being called on to pay more for less. For example, in Canton, the school has seen the emptying of many classrooms, with drastic cuts in programs and services. Though a great public effort was made, little changed on the economic outlook, resulting in the possibility of another tax increase. Whether it be school, community or county, to what degree will you be call on to meet these budget demands? How is your money being spent? On programs and services for you and your family? On administration? Stay informed and vote.
