In response to the Letter to the Editor “Where Did Bugs, Rodents Disappear To?” I’m not sure what’s going on in your neck of the woods, but on my land and around my house there are plenty of bugs of all sorts as there are all year. Right now I’ve got swarms of lady bugs, late dragonflies eating the last of the mosquitoes, lots of mice and chipmunks gathering for the coming hard times, snakes making their way back to my old well head to bask in the last strong suns and snuggle into the well for the winter, etc. So, I think it is business as usual in the bug, snake and rodent department. What is missing are the Monarch butterflies that are usually feeding off of the last of my flowers and milkweeds. I only saw two this year. We’ve evidently polluted our planet and destroyed their habitat to the degree that they will be a rare sight indeed. I have noticed a marked decline in several species of birds around my place. The pine siskins, grosbeaks of three types, orioles; about twelve different species of birds I saw frequently in the past have not been seen by me. I haven’t seen a Meadowlark in over twenty years.
