First class mail

I think that residents of St. Lawrence County should be made aware that our U.S. Postal Service is no longer considering St. Lawrence County a one-day guaranteed first class delivery zone. Our mail is going to Syracuse for sorting but is now taking longer to get back to St. Lawrence County by at least an extra day and in many cases more than two. Our mail is moving slower to get elsewhere also, so if you have bills to pay via the mail, make sure to allow extra time or you could end up paying late charges. It would be nice if our local media would do a feature on this change that recently was made in January, but there is a conflict inherent since the media depends on the mail to move their papers and no one wants the make the mail carrier mad or feel under-appreciated. However, the change has nothing to do with your postal carrier, as it results from decisions made elsewhere that has reduced personnel and resources dedicated to the processing and transportation aspects, and is just another example of how the rural areas such as the North Country are being left behind.
