Went to the Norwood-Norfolk Board Meeting on April 5. In response to whether we should have a middle school, the community overwhelmingly cheered for the idea of cutting the middle school and returning to a K-6 and 7-12 building. Faculty members have expressed the desire to eliminate the concept, but for some reason, the board of education ignores the response of both faculty and community. This is a sacred cow and if the person who wrote the article for the Sound Off “Run for School Board” (April 13-19) was truly a board member in another district, then they would know the fact that the state does not require districts to have middle schools. Only elementary and high schools are required. The middle school is an extra that is a frill. I would rather cut the middle school and an administrator and save teacher jobs by reorganizing positions.
