To the person who wrote “Teaching to Test,” (April 10 -16). I would hope they would re-think their comment. The whole notion of having all of this testing is to make sure that students are learning what the state feels they should know. If you are going to test people on what you want them to know, it makes sense to tell the teachers what to teach and let them ‘teach to the test’. The problem isn’t really that the state is changing what they want taught and that they are changing the tests to match that. The problem is that they are changing the tests before they are telling the teachers what they want taught and what will be tested. How can you adequately teach to a test that no one has told you what is on it?
