Some of the members on the Regional Economic Council are impressive, hard-working, dedicated individuals and we certainly hope they succeed in bringing jobs and economic development to the north country. That being said, one can only wonder where the state found a billion dollars to fund this project. All north country school districts have seen major cuts in state funding, sports programs have been eliminated, and teaching and staff positions have been cut so where was the one billion when these budgets were being sliced? And, on the subject of education...kudos to the SUNY officials implementing the combination of some services at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton. What a wonderful idea and wouldn’t it be great if some of the savings could be passed right back to the students. I hope area high schools will watch and learn from the SUNY system. They are setting a great example.
