Drug treatment in jail

I believe it’s time for our legislature to pursue the possibility of offering substance abuse treatment in the jail. Time and time again we read where criminals with substance abuse issues are released to the supervision of probation. Most of these individuals are helpless to break free from the ravages of addiction. There are not enough treatment facilities, the waiting lists are long, and criminals are taking rehab beds from individuals who are not criminals. The legislature would have to commit to building more jail pods. Perhaps there would be financial incentives or assistance from the government to help with an innovative program that would protect society from these individuals by incarcerating them, offering them treatment at the same time. Feel free to raise my taxes if it will prevent some drunken driver from killing someone’s child.
