I am amazed at how easily people talk about raising taxes in Potsdam or over-riding the 2% property tax cap. Where do they think people can find the money to pay the extra taxes? My husband and I are trying to be a young, responsible couple by paying our student loans, mortgage and bills. We don’t live extravagantly and now, with one of us having lost our job, are struggling just to make ends meet. If taxes continue to go up, we will be forced out of the area. We love living in the village and the area, but local businesses and schools don’t pay enough to cover the local cost of living. I know schools and the local government are struggling, but so are the people living in the area.
