In response to “Amish Buggies,” which ran in the April 22 issue of North Country This Week, I share some of your concerns about the visibility of the Amish buggies but I disagree with your use of the phrase innocent tax paying citizens. As motor vehicle drivers we must accept the responsibility of safely operating our automobiles. We need to be alert to any hazards or obstacles on the road ahead; bicycles, pedestrians, deer, cars stopped on the shoulder of the road, and yes, horse drawn carts and buggies. If you are driving too fast for road conditions or are not paying attention to your surroundings then I can’t consider you innocent if you become involved in an accident no matter what you may hit. It’s not like the buggy drivers are out to get your car, they are just going about their business...same as you are. Keep your eyes on the road, slow down when called for, and show some respect to your fellow human beings!
