So I was curious if I was the only one concerned about the privatization of solid waste in St. Lawrence County. I understand the importance of budget cuts, however creating a monopoly for garbage haulers is going to hurt the country by putting many haulers out of business. I think as difficult as it may be, the county needs to focus on cuts to Social Services, for example the child care benefit many people receive to aid in child care expenses should be reviewed. As a taxpaying citizen, I don’t feel a mother who has a 13 year old and a 9 year old should receive daycare reimbursement for both children. Other places they need to look is the amount of years people have been receiving services--that should be limited and decreased as the years/months pass, as it is to help until you get a job.
