In response to “Where Are the Cops?” which appeared in the June 22-28 issue of North Country This Week: I can tell you where the cops in Canton are. They are standing on the sidewalk (four of them) at the intersection of Main and Park streets during Dairy Princess festivities. What are they doing there? Nothing! Oh, except scolding me for crossing the street while traffic was stopped and many pedestrians were standing waiting to cross. All because I didn't wait for them to say it was okay. So, you see, they are busy doing nothing. Also, Judson Street has the same issues as Miner Street; people parking on the clearly marked “no parking anytime" side of the street, speeding up Judson (although many times it is the cops speeding with no lights or siren on), ignoring people parking anywhere they want because there is a garage sale, etc. Maybe it's time for the village to consider using funds wasted on cops for some better use: infrastructure, new water source, etc. and do away with the force. After all, there are state police and sheriff’s to call upon if needed.
