In response to the North Country This Week July 6-12 Sound Off "Behavior at Bayside" is correct in their observed concerns at Bayside Cemetery. There is another serious issue we have witnessed every single time we have visited the cemetery where our loved ones are buried. People regularly walk their unleashed dogs there and some are not cleaning up after them either. Hey irresponsible pet owners: there is a sign posted regarding dogs in the cemetery at the entrance, please start following the rules. I would love to walk my dogs there, but because some people seem to think they are above the rules, that it is their right to unleash their dogs, I will not take mine. Leashed dogs/owners have been attacked by unleashed dogs there more than once. It was also disturbing to witness an unleashed dog chasing after the very young geese families this past spring, while the owners were walking together far behind, paying no attention to their dog. Although no one was injured, it was incredibly stressful for the birds. It is a very selfish act to be walking your dogs unleashed anywhere in public. You may believe your dog is very well trained or that they would never attack another human or animal, but remember they are individuals with ideas and thoughts of their own and without a leash, you will never control them from acting on impulse. If you believe your dog needs off-the-leash exercise, contact the Potsdam Humane Society to see if they need volunteers or more monetary donations to finish up the dog park that they have been working on for so long. Lastly, please stop thinking about yourself and start caring about the well-being of others. Little changes like that will only make this world a better place to live in. In reading the news, it is clear that we, all people of the earth, have to commit and make a priority the caring and concern for all other humans and creatures.
