San Bernadino was terrible. It has forced reasonable law enforcement professionals and other moderate non-extreme thinkers to concede that we the people are ultimately responsible for our own safety and yes that means those of us that can legally carry concealed perhaps should start doing that. This public acknowledgement by law enforcement professionals that unfortunately our world has devolved to a state that people lawfully can carry are justified in thinking they are thinking safer by doing so flyies square in the face of St Lawrence Counties permit issuing authority. There are hundreds or perhaps even more legal handgun owners that have been told it is ok to own your gun target shoot with it or hunt with it or defend yourself at home with it but it is not ok to take it with you to a place you may need it. Current terrible events have forced this issue now way beyond the June meeting we had in Canton that got us nowhere and just maybe it is time for open defiance of this policy. What would be even better would be local law enforcement refusing to enforce the policy as long as gun owners are otherwise legal. Oh and no I am not a gun nut. I wish our world was not coming to this state but it is and I'll be damned if I let some ill conceived policy limit my ability to do what it increasingly looks like must be done.
