Of course it is awful that Potsdam Central is cutting a music position to half time. Potsdam can be very proud of strength of its music program over the years. However, let’s not lose sight of the other positions being cut. Potsdam is cutting a full-time math teacher, a half-time language teacher, a special education teacher and more. I don’t know how half a music job can be deemed more important than these other teachers. Obviously, in a perfect world there would be no cuts at all but that is not the case. To make the analogy of a family budget, if I lose my job should I pay the utility bill or go out to dinner?
