County health insurance

I am a St. Lawrence County employee and am dismayed to see co-workers lose their jobs in the latest attempt at a budget. I feel it is time we pay more of our share for our health insurance benefits. I have family members who do not work for a union and they pay a lot more for their health insurance, as do a lot of our county taxpayers. I believe county employees and retirees need to pay more so we don't lose more job positions. We have a good union but I believe unions are out of touch with the insurance benefits responsibilities, as are most teacher unions, state unions, etc. How can we justify this while our coworkers lose their jobs and our county taxpayers have to pay a lot more for their insurance? I personally don't believe just because I am a county employee or have a union behind me, I am entitled to low co-pays and premiums.
