In response to “Cougars in Area?” (Sound Off, Aug. 3-9): Approximately a month and a half ago my boyfriend and I spotted a large black feline skirting around the field behind his apartment building located next to Dollar General in Potsdam. It was much too large to be an average house cat (even a large house cat) and moved like a feline, so it wasn’t a dog either. We watched it for a good 10 minutes as it walked from the edge of the field into the treeline. We looked up info on cougars and the pictures matched what we saw. The DEC may say that there are no cougars in the area, but I know what I saw. Now I’m keeping a closer eye on my son, and the treeline, when he’s out playing. This needs to be taken care of.
