There should be more collaboration between St. Lawrence County law enforcement and social services. Prior to the county hiring any law enforcement official they should intern with social services for two years. The future officer could work at Social Services, Renewal House, Catholic Charities, group and drug homes and United Helpers to name a few. The experience a future officer would gain by doing this would only help. Doctors have internships, teachers student teach why don't future officers have more hands on knowledge. This would prevent crime and strengthen the relationship between those in need and the police. The future officer would make the same wages and benefits of these organizations. Maybe then they would gain appreciation for the wages and lifetime benefits they receive. Let's invest in the great people of St. Lawrence County. We're not evil, we're poor and poorly managed. Policing for revenue is ruining our great county.
