Confederate flag at school

This is in response to the Sound Off “Redneck Day at School” which appeared in the Oct. 14-20 issue of North Country This Week: Before we start spouting hate for a media driven perception of a flag let's do some research. Please note this link: http://bit.ly/1TqhNLE it shows a broad history of the flag from 1861. As the article notes, removal of the flag does not remove the racism from people only the symbol of it. I offer that if you hate a symbol of something without understanding the complete history of it and understanding why a person is flying the flag you are as much a racist as you believe the person flying the symbol is. I think the flag should be on school ground as it promotes conversation and education; is that not what school is for?
