Claims on pill unfounded

In response to “Abortion, Pill Increases Risk, Resident Claims,” I attempted to check the claims made in this letter to the editor claiming causal links between abortion, birth control, and breast cancer with information from the Mayo Clinic and the National Cancer Institute at www.cancer.gov. According to both, oral contraceptives showed no increase or a slight increase in risk for breast cancer. What Chris LaRose failed to mention was that oral contraceptives actually decrease a woman’s risk of other cancers, including ovarian cancer. Additionally, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists has stated that there is no causal relationship between induced abortion and breast cancer. This is a thinly veiled attempt to spread additional fear around women’s health issues. Combine this with this past week’s sound off telling women to stay at home, and I am shocked at the suddenly anti-feminist stance people are taking.
