So if I understand the article about Ogdensburg reducing how much they are willing to pay for sidewalk replacement to 25 percent correctly; as a property owner if the city mandates my sidewalk be replaced I have no choice but to replace the sidewalk in 30 days? Since the city is mandating this they will only pay for 25 percent of the cost even though this will benefit the city equally as much as the property owner? So let me offer a question: how do I have the sidewalk completely removed so there is no sidewalk? Or is the city going to mandate there must be a sidewalk in front of my property? If that is the case, then this is a simple answer of no. Is it not illegal to mandate I have a sidewalk then force me to pay for maintenance of said requirement or outsource the work billing me for what I do not want in place to begin with? Since the city is raising taxes and now wants to further burden citizens how bout we look elsewhere like the mayor pay and maybe the board's pay? Lets reduce that by 80 percent maybe that can help the budget. Simply put if you are going to mandate me to replace the sidewalk I will remove the sidewalk in front of my property.
