“Road Hunting Illegal,” (Nov. 17-24) I could not agree more. I live in the country and open my window at night to hear gunshots from 2 to 4 a.m. in the morning. Drive by any state land around Potsdam, Stockholm or Brasher and it’s trashed. But I see our frugal DEC/forest ranger management team putting up road blocks on Route 56 and chasing around tax paying hunters that are literally one to 10 miles off the main road to maybe catch them putting through the woods on a four wheeler without a helmet, going to and from a hunting spot. Holy Dick Tracy! Spending thousands of dollars for what? I think the tax paying dollars could be better used trying to catch the illegal hunters driving around day and night shooting deer around our homes and families. And maybe try to catch the people throwing washing machines, tires, etc., on state land. Who is managing these decisions? As a taxpayer, this is not acceptable.
