In response to “Balloon Release,” you say the intention of the Garrett Phillips balloon release is not to pollute the environment. Really? That is exactly the outcome! You say you are releasing the balloons to heaven. Seriously? Heaven is not scientifically proven to exist, but releasing latex balloons is scientifically proven to be detrimental to wildlife. You say you are using earth friendly string and biodegradable latex. Come on! Cotton strings do biodegrade, but they also get wound around the mouths, feet, bodies, throats, of fish and birds long before they have a chance to dissolve. The only people that call latex balloons biodegradable are the companies that make them. So please do your research. Additionally, there is a national helium shortage. Helium is used for industrial and medical uses and should not be wasted on efforts to destroy the environment and contact heaven. It would be better to choose a different way to memorialize Garrett, not next time…this time!
