Not all bats leave the Village of Potsdam in the winter to hibernate in the caverns. There was a bat in my house on Jan. 2. The Potsdam Police dispatcher promptly sent a civilian nuisance control officer who removed the bat. The St. Lawrence County Health Department said the bat was not rabid. I had been opening a window at night believing bats were not around in winter. I had not lowered the screen on the triple track storm window.
