With this past week’s high temperatures, the demand for electricity is at “peak loads” causing power companies to start up oil and gas-fired generators to meet the demand. The transmission lines are now being monitored to avoid “brownouts” in some areas. What will happen in a couple of years when the government-backed production of electric cars start hitting the market? If our economy was in better shape with more factories demanding more energy and these electric car are being plugged in, will our transmission lines handle the demand? How do these electric cars become “green” when we have to burn more gas and oil to charge them?
