I'm a St. Lawrence County hunter and home protection guy. So many NRA members think any change in gun laws put them at risk of looing their freedom or subjects us to tyranny. Our freedom loss and tyranny has already happened and all the guns in the country did not help. If, as the NRA wants, everyone is armed, there will be so many shootouts. Have you read the NY laws concerning self-defense? They are not very clear when you are outside your home. Teachers and staff with guns in schools, do you think you'll be given almost complete immunity that police are given when they shoot someone? If and when a regular citizen does shoot someone they are likely to spend lots of money, perhaps their life savings, defending themselves in both criminal and civil court for years. Scotland and Australia have changed their gun laws and do not have mass shootings anywhere like we do. This is an American problem and more guns are not the answer. Our children should come first, not our right to have military weapons. We need to be able to go about our business in public without fearing a hundred people at a time might be mowed down in a single event.
