Constance Ahlfeld, 92, of Cecil Avenue, passed away Tuesday morning October 22, 2013 at Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.
Connie was born on April 9, 1921 in Norwood to Frank and Nancy (Conese) Lamanna. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1939.
She was married to Bernard “Scotty” Ahlfeld on July 18, 1943 at St. Andrew's Church in Norwood by Rev. Joy. Mr. Ahlfeld predeceased her on April 26, 1999.
,Connie was employed at Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood Long Island, upon graduation from high school.
During World War II she was a “Rosie the Riveter” at Republic Air Craft. She moved back to Massena after the war. She later worked at the Department of Labor as Senior Unemployment Insurance Clerk for 21 years, part time and full time, retiring in 1989.
Connie was a former member of Massena Country Club, Ladies Golf Association, St. Regis Senior Citizens, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Red Hatters. She was an avid bowler, golfer and enjoyed playing cards.
Connie leaves behind her children, Rick Ahlfeld and Donna Jacoby, and Tim and Kathleen Ahlfeld, all of Massena, Mary Anne and Robert Butler of St. George, Utah, and Judy and Joe Seil of Rochester; nephew Joe and Shirley Palmisano of Massena, who made his home with them at age 14; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Bob Ahlfeld, Jessica, Nick, Samantha Ahlfeld, Tim and Andy Seil, Scotty and J.J. Ahlfeld.
She was predeceased by a sister, Teresa Palmisano Garfola; and three brothers, Eustace, Joseph and Henry Lamanna; and a daughter in-law, Betty Ahlfeld.
At the family's request, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Trinity Catholic School, American Heart Association or a charity of one’s choice.
Friends and family may be received on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at noon at Church of Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
