Mr. Mark Andrew Narsisian “Nikanawaa”, 60, of 68 Oakes Road, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mark was born July 12, 1950 in Malone, the son of Andrews and Margaret L. Cook Narsisian. He graduated from East Rochester High School in 1968 and attended Brigham Young University.
Mark was currently the Managing Editor of Indian Time Newspaper in Akwesasne, where he had been employed for many years. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #513, Massena, where he was a past Master. He was also active the Mohawk Indian Housing Corp, the Akwesasne Area Management Board, Ronathahon:ni Cultural Centre, and the Onake Corporation. Mark enjoyed life, but mostly enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas David and Pam Narsisian of East Rochester; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Don Hagenbuch of East Rochester; two nieces and a nephew, Scott and Jody Narsisian and Kelly Hagenbuch; many cousins including, Mitch and Chris Cook and Punchie Cook who have been his primary caregivers during his illness; and numerous friends.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Margaret Narsisian; and an aunt, Margaret Olan.
Friends may call beginning Monday evening until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Cook Farm 498 Cook Road, Akwesasne. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse. Graveside services will be held Thursday 2:00 p.m. at White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford, NY. Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
