Leon “Joe” LaFave, age 88, formerly of Riverview Towers, passed away February 25, 2013 at Riverledge Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Calling hours will be held from 11:00 to 1:30p.m. up to the time of the funeral. Burial will be held in the Spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Leon is survived by his two sons, Jimmy LaFave and his wife and Ann and Jeff LaFave, both of Ogdensburg; and two granddaughters, Sara and Shannon LaFave also of Ogdensburg.
He was predeceased by his son, Joseph in 1987; his sister, Marie Tulip; and two brothers, Lawrence LaFave and Robert LaFave.
Mr. LaFave was born December 15, 1924, in Ogdensburg, the son of Leon and Blanche (Gore) LaFave. He graduated from OFA in 1942. He married Joan Margaret Weckerle in Maryland in April of 1957. She predeceased him on January 24, 1992. He first went to work for Grumman at Republic Airport and then later on to work for Mathis Well Drilling which was later bought out by Layne Christensen Co. Well Drilling in Long Island and retired as an operation engineer.
Joe enjoyed watching hockey, in particular the New York Islanders and the Long Island Ducks, horse shoes, bowling, camping, and traveling to such places as Canada and Pennsylvania.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Agarwal Renal Center in Ogdensburg.
