Madrid- Elwood G. Henry, 95, of Henry Rd., Madrid passed away late Friday afternoon February 15, 2013 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Friends and family are welcome to call at Phillips Memorial Home in Madrid on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 2 - 4 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Warrington presiding. Interment at Morley Cemetery will take place in the spring.
Elwood is survived by his daughters, Margaret and husband Roger Fraser of Fine, Sharon and husband Lauren Wells of Madrid; five grandchildren, Adam N. and Jennifer Wells Ogdensburg, Angel R. and a fiancé Collin Young of Madrid, Ashley A. and her husband Jeremy McIntosh York Springs PA, Acacia I. Wells and her companion Josh White Chase Mills and Autumn D. Wells of Madrid. Also surviving Elwood are five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Elwood was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris I. on August 20, 1989. Also preceding Elwood are two brothers, Author and Ross Henry; sister, Dorothy McDonald and a grandchild Joshua A Wells.
Elwood G. Henry was born in Madrid on October 15, 1917 to the Late Ray E. and Dora (Lavine) Henry. He graduated from Madrid High school in 1937. Elwood married Doris I. Coons in Madrid, April 21, 1946. He worked on his farm until he began his career at the Parish Oil Company in 1960.
Elwood was an avid bowler and member of the Madrid Grange for over 50 years. Retiring after 20 years of service from the Parish Oil Company in 1980, Elwood spent much of his retirement serving with the Waddington Senior Citizens as president, and he was a Volunteer Driver for St. Lawrence Country. He also attended the Morley Wesleyan Church.
