CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 E. Main St., will host a free class on origami for children ages four to 10 Saturday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. The class is part of the Second Saturday Children's Program.
Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, though there is evidence of independent paper folding traditions in China, Germany, Italy, Spain and other countries.
Origami began in Japan in the 17th century, at the latest, but may date from much earlier. Jeannie Piekarz, a student at Clarkson University, will lead the origami program and show kids how to make different origami items, such as dog and kitten faces, paper cups, and cranes.
Parents, grandparents, other caregivers and their children are welcome to attend. Parking is available in the back of the SLCHA, next to the museum's main entrance.
