CANTON -- TAUNY will host a Winter Break Arts Camp from Tuesday, Feb. 19 to Thursday, Feb. 21 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the TAUNY Center.
The program will be for children ages seven to 12 and will feature crafts and activities traditionally practiced in the North Country.
Activities will include wax-resist fabric dying using local, natural plant dyes, soap carving, storytelling, traditional social dancing with live fiddle accompaniment and more. A snack will be provided.
Instructors include contra dance caller and musician Beth Robinson, fiddler Jacob Brillhart, woodcarver Ron Riley, storyteller and NCPR host Todd Moe, and local farmer and artist Flip Filippi.
The Cost of the camp will be $45 per child, $35 for TAUNY Friends, for the three-day session and includes all materials. This reduced cost is made possible by a grant from the Adirondack Community Trust Adirondack for Kids community foundation. Partial and full scholarships are available for those in financial hardship upon request. Registration must be made by Friday, Feb. 8 by contacting [email protected] or 386-4289.
