Sanford A. Weil, age 83, of Canton, passed away on August 23, 2010 at the Maplewood Nursing Home.
Sanford was born on February 21, 1927 in New York City to the late Henry and Mary Weil. He received his P.H.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Weil served in the United States Army as an interpreter in occupied Japan during WWII. He worked for many years as a researcher for the Gas Institute in Chicago. He was also the author of many articles and patents. Sanford was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Society of Sigma Xi.
He married Lois Graham on April 28, 1967. A previous marriage ended in divorce.
His survivors include his wife, Lois of Canton; two sons and their wives, Jason and Lynn Weil of Seattle, WA, and Gordon and Teresa Weil of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Lester Weil of California and Montana; a sister, Edna Pagett of Texas; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ira Weil.
There will be no public calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
