Joan Ann Shampine, formerly of Dekalb Jct., entered into rest in Roanoke, VA on January 05, 2013. She was born August 5, 1946 in Gouverneur, to Lemuel McKinley Typhair and Irene Carrie Denecia. She graduated from Hermon-Dekalb Central School in 1963. She married Leo Daniel Shampine on March 20, 1965 in the Methodist Church, Canton. They were married until he passed in June 2000 in Georgia.
They were blessed with four children, Leo Allen and Charlene Shampine of Hermon, David and Serena Shampine of Franklin, NC, Beverly and James Carlin of Martin, Georgia , and Jean Pierre Shampine of Edwards. She had six grandchildren, Charles Shampine, Jamie Danielle Chapman, Dwight Shampine, Daniel Shampine, James, and Samantha Carlin; and she had three great grandchildren. She also had a special friend, Terry Holmes of Roanoke, formerly of Edwards.
She is also survived by four sisters and two brothers, James Typhair, Gouverneur, Marie and Tom McCoy, Rome, William and Martha Typhair, Dekalb, Doris and Ronnie Fuller, Pinehurst, Texas, Mona Taylor, Ogdensburg and Carol Durham, Canton.
She was predeceased by her father and mother; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lemuel Albert and Elisa Typhair of El Paso, Texas.
Joan was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by all. She loved to play cards, crochet, do word puzzles, bake donuts and loved her Country Music.
